作家らでつくる日本ペンクラブ主催の第３０回「平和の日」青森の集いが１日、青森市内で開かれた。会長の浅田次郎さんらが、「言（こと）の葉（は）」などをテーマに、台本なしのリレートークで世相などを語り合った。エッセイストの下重暁子さんは「言の葉」をテーマに、自宅の炊飯器などが完了の合図に言葉を発することへの身近な違和感から話を起こした。すると、詩人のアーサー・ビナードさんは「それは突き詰めると『命令』。人間側が、それに合わせ従う生活を続けると、いつしか言葉が出なくなる」と警鐘を鳴らした。安倍晋三首相が使う「積極的平和主義」にも話が及んだ。ビナードさんは、学問的には武力衝突やその原因となる貧富の格差、人種差別などを無くす取り組みを意味するとし、「言葉の乗っ取りだ」と述べた。弘前市出身の作家、長部日出雄さんは浅田さんと「ふるさと」について談義。浅田さんが「東北弁を初めて聞いたときは音楽性を感じた」と話すと、長部さんは「方言には標準語にない、その土地のニュアンスも含まれている。ふるさとは言葉である」と述べた。
