8月2日開幕の青森ねぶた祭に向け、ねぶたが練り歩く運行コース沿いで桟敷席作りが進んでいる。青森市役所前では10日、作業員10人が、夏の強い日差しの中、桟敷席を支える鉄パイプを手際良く組み上げた。桟敷席は計52カ所に設置、7月末まで作業が続く。桟敷席作りは9日、市役所前から始まった。現場に運び込まれた鉄パイプはトラック3台分。10日は、作業員が高さ3.2メートル、幅26メートルの桟敷席を支える鉄パイプを組み上げて入念に固定した。現場責任者を務める丸美佐藤組＝青森市＝の國分裕祥さん（64）は「日射病に注意して安全第一で作業を行う。観客の方に『ねぶたを見て良かった』と喜んでもらえる席にしたい」、作業を指揮する千葉嘉大さん（38）は「歩行者にパイプが当たらないように気をつけて、安全に作業を進めたい」と話した。青森観光コンベンション協会によると、今年の有料観覧席は桟敷席といす席で会期中（2～7日）計約6万2千席を準備。4日と5日を除いて、まだ空きがあるという。問い合わせは同協会（電話017-723-7211）へ。
