日本でのスキーなどを目的に、増え続けるオーストラリアからの観光客を取り込もうと、青森県はオーストラリアの旅行会社の担当者を招き、山岳スキーで知られる八甲田山系の魅力などをＰＲしています。
青森県を訪れているのは、オーストラリアで日本へのツアーを専門に扱う旅行会社の担当者２人です。
今月２日から青森市などの観光地を視察してきた一行は、４日に山岳スキーで知られる八甲田山系を訪れ、スキーやスノーボードをして、オーストラリア人に人気のあるパウダースノーの雪質を確かめていました。このあと、酸ヶ湯温泉の旅館を訪れ、担当者から部屋の種類や食事のメニューなどを詳しく聞いていました。オーストラリアからの観光客は、北海道だけでなく、雪の多い県内でも増え続けていて、去年の宿泊者数は９月末の時点で震災の前の年の同じ時期と比べ１１倍に増えています。
県は、旅行会社の担当者を招いた今回の視察で、県内を訪れる旅行商品を企画してもらい、オーストラリアからの観光客をさらに増やしたい考えです。オーストラリアの旅行会社のジュディ・ラクストンさんは「八甲田はパウダースノーで、すばらしいガイドのもとでスキーができます。旅館では、日本らしい経験も楽しめます」と話していました。また、青森県観光交流推進課は「冬場は観光客が少ないので、樹氷などの観光資源をしっかりと海外にＰＲしていきたい」と話していました。
「百段階段」とは通称で、かつての目黒雅叙園3号館にあたり、昭和10(1935)年に建てられた当園で現存する唯一の木造建築です。食事を楽しみ、晴れやかな宴が行われた7部屋を、99段の長い階段廊下が繋いでいます。階段で結ばれた各部屋はそれぞれ趣向が異なり、各部屋の天井や欄間には、当時屈指の著名な画家達が創り上げた美の世界が描かれています。平成21(2009)年3月、東京都の有形文化財に指定され、現在は催し物や、見学ツアーにて限定公開をしています。７月から青森ねぶたも展示されます若手ねぶた師４人で制作１番良い部屋で展示されます。
