北国に春の訪れを告げる民俗芸能の「八戸えんぶり」が１７日から始まり、五穀豊じょうを願う舞い手の行列が八戸市の中心部を練り歩きました。
およそ８００年前から伝わるとされる「八戸えんぶり」は、１年の豊作を願って農作業の様子を舞いで表現する民俗芸能で、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されています。
初日の１７日は、八戸市内の中心街で地区ごとに作られた「えんぶり組」と呼ばれる３４のグループが集まって舞いを披露する「一斉摺り」が行われました。
笛や太鼓などのにぎやかな演奏にあわせて、えぼしをかぶた「太夫」と呼ばれる男たちが、大地の眠りをさますという願いを込めてかねのついた棒で地面をたたき、勇壮な舞いを披露しました。
また、七福神などにふんした子どもたちも扇などを持ってかわいらしい舞いを披露しました。
八戸市の中心街は１６日までの大雪で雪が高く積もった場所もあり、沿道に詰めかけた人たちは滑りやすい足元に注意しながらさかんに歓声をあげていました。
見物に訪れた地元の６０代の男性は「いつ見てもすごいです。春が来たという感じです」と話していました。また、岩手県から観光で訪れた女性は「華やかな衣装がきれいです。子どもたちの踊りもうまくてまた見に来たいです」と話していました。
「八戸えんぶり」は今月２０日まで行われ、期間中は毎晩、市役所前の広場にかがり火がたかれてえんぶりが披露されます。
