『スター・ウォーズ』シリーズ最新作『スター・ウォーズ/フォースの覚醒』(12月18日公開)をテーマとする青森県田舎館村の田んぼアートの田植えが9日、スタートした。
見頃を迎える8月頃には、日本のメディアのみならず海外からの取材も殺到する国際的なアートイベント、田んぼアート。今年のテーマは、"STAR WARS YEAR"ということもあり、『スター・ウォーズ/フォースの覚醒』に決定した。デザインは、ルーカスフィルムが監修。シリーズの人気ドロイドC-3PO、R2-D2、そして、新キャラクター・BB-8が描かれる。『スター・ウォーズ/フォースの覚醒』の田んぼアートが掲出される会場は、横154m×縦69m(約1.0ha)と、阪神甲子園球場のグランド面積(1.3ha)と同等の面積の広大な田んぼ。本日より開始した田植えには、地元農家はもちろん、「スター・ウォーズ」Tシャツを着た保育所の園児たちも参加し、5歳～80歳まで幅広い世代が泥まみれになりながら作業を行った。さらに、田植えの途中に、2体のストームトルーパーが巨大田んぼアートの護衛のために登場。彼らが姿を現すと、大きな歓声が沸き起こり、園児たちの視線もくぎ付けに。そして、ストームトルーパーは、記念撮影などファンとの交流に快く応じ、盛り上げた。「『スター・ウォーズ』なら来場者だれもが喜ぶに違いない!」と担当部署を説得した田舎館村企画観光課の浅利さんは「テーマを発表した時、村のFacebookアクセス数が何倍にも跳ね上がり、反響がすごかったです!」と明かし、「世界的にも注目されていて、今年は例年より増して海外からも観光客が来てくれるんではないかと期待しております」と熱く語っている。
