人気SFシリーズ最新作『スター・ウォーズ／フォースの覚醒』の公開を記念し、「青森ねぶた祭」の前夜祭セレモニーに、ルーカスフィルム監修“スター・ウォーズねぶた”の登場が決定。今回、4つのねぶたのうち3つのデザインが解禁となった。映画史に残るSF映画シリーズの最新作であり、新たな3部作の1作目として注目を浴びる本作。J・J・エイブラムスがメガホンを取り、『エピソード6／ジェダイの帰還』の約30年後を描く。公開前から既に“スター・ウォーズ・イヤー”として盛り上がりをみせている今年は2月に開催された「さっぽろ雪まつり」での“雪のスター・ウォーズ大雪像”お披露目をはじめ、「スター・ウォーズ展」や「田んぼアート」など様々なプロモーションを展開。今回、世界的にも知名度が高く、国の重要無形民俗文化財でもある「青森ねぶた祭」とのコラボレーションが実現した。ねぶた祭ではこれまで歴史上の人物や神仏、近年ではNHK大河ドラマをモチーフにしたねぶたが登場する事もあったが、映画作品の登場人物がねぶたとして、これほどまでに精緻に制作されるのは史上初の試みとなる。
8月1日の前夜祭セレモニーには、C‐3POとR2‐D2が描かれた“ドロイドねぶた”、ルーク・スカイウォーカーやヨーダが描かれた“ジェダイねぶた”、ダース・ベイダーやダース・モールが描かれた“シスねぶた”、そして前夜祭当日発表される“シークレットねぶた”の4つが登場。シークレットには、最新作のキャラクターが描かれているのではないかと、早くも注目を呼んでいる。この“スター・ウォーズねぶた”は、前夜祭セレモニーで一般にお披露目された後、8月2日から7日までの「青森ねぶた祭」開催期間中、ねぶたの家「ワ・ラッセ」にて特別に展示される。
