青森市とウォルト・ディズニー・ジャパン（東京）は6日、今年8月の青森ねぶた祭に人気SF映画「スター・ウォーズ」のキャラクターを題材にした中型ねぶた4台が登場すると発表した。8月1日に青い海公園で開かれる前夜祭にお目見えするほか、2～7日の祭り期間中は「ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ」で公開する。12月に公開される最新作「スター・ウォーズ／フォースの覚醒」PRの一環。6日には4台のうち3台のデザイン画が公開された。「ドロイドねぶた」はC－3POとR2－D2が登場。「ジェダイねぶた」はルーク・スカイウォーカーやヨーダらがライトセーバーを構える。「シスねぶた」はダース・ベイダーら悪役が大見えを切る。4台目のデザインは、最新作のキャラクターが登場する見込みだが、前夜祭当日まで「シークレット」という。デザイン画はスター・ウォーズを手掛ける米映画制作会社ルーカスフィルムが監修した。ねぶたの制作は若手ねぶた師が担当し、一部のねぶたの制作は「ワ・ラッセ」で公開する。青森市や祭り関係者によると、映画制作会社側が今年2月、スター・ウォーズねぶたの運行を市側に打診。現在の運行方式である「一斉スタート方式」では、現状以上に大型ねぶたの運行台数を増やすことは困難なため、前夜祭で展示することになった。

According to Aomori-shi and the person concerned with festival, a movie production company official sounds out service of Star Wars Nebuta on the city side in this February. Because it is difficult to increase service number of large-scale Nebuta than the present conditions by "the simultaneous start method" that is a current service method, I will display it at the eve.
