青森市議会は9日、一般質問を行った。市側は、イタリア・ミラノで5～10月に開かれる国際博覧会（ミラノ万博）の期間中の7月、青森ねぶたが出陣することが正式に決まったことを明らかにした議員の質問に答えた。市によると、東日本大震災からの復興PRを目的に、2月中旬に国から市に対して正式な依頼があった。青森ねぶたが、海外の万博に出陣するのは初めて。ねぶたは7月に日本をPRする「ジャパンデー」に、ほかの東北5市の主な祭りとともに会場内でパレードに参加し、市の魅力を発信する。ミラノ出陣にかかる費用は国が負担するという。出陣するねぶたは、ねぶた師の北村隆氏が制作する高さ4.5メートル、幅7メートル、奥行き5メートルの中型ねぶたで、3月21日から青森市の文化観光交流施設「ねぶたの家 ワ・ラッセ」で制作の様子を一般公開する。ジャパンデーでは東北の祭りのほか、日本の伝統芸能の披露なども予定されている。鹿内博市長は答弁で「自然、食、物産、文化など、青森市の魅力を強力に発信したい」と述べた。
